Alternator question.... on startup it takes a second for the voltage to rise 200 1983

Check the voltage at the battery next time you start up your brick and the needle is pointing to 12V. If the volatge over the battery is 12V then I would suspect the belt, check for correct tension and wear. Do you have both belts installed for the water pump and alternator? If the battery voltage is above 12V and more like 13-15V then its just that the voltage gauge is old. My gauge does the same thing on several of my old car including my 264GL. Because the gauge is old it just needs that little extra bump to get it up to the correct level (Insert Viagra ad here). An old gauge can lie to you. Good Luck!
