So I don't think it's relevant to the basic problem as posted. It wasn't clear whether he meant that he couldn't depress the lock while the door was open, which we agree is normal, or that he couldn't depress the lock when the door was closed. If that's the case, it might mean that the internal switch is somehow buggered -- and that might coincide with the passenger door lock always popping up.
