Painting soon. Should I remove the black tape under side windows? 200 1991

It is a real bear to remove- especially on wagons with the cargo windows to do as well. A heat gun helps but you have to be careful. A wooden spatula/stick helps and doesn't mar the surface if you are careful. Repaints with the tape on will reveal how carefully it was masked and most likely show a visible hard edge. Whenever I have removed the tape I have never replaced with tape. It is much easier and (IMHO) much better looking to use a good quality black satin spray paint. The trim at the bottom of the windows has a tab at each end that wraps around the edge of the frame. If you carefully bend that tabs to release their grip you can then place a wide screwdriver blade between the trim and the top of the door and pry it upwards and off.
