Intake manfold gasket failure with less than 5000 miles and four months

This February the intake manifold gasket on my wife's 1993 944T failed at 198,xxx miles. I replaced it with a Victor-Reinz gasket, and it failed with less than 5000 miles and four months. The new gasket is two colors of grey, indicating it is made of two materials bonded together. In the failed gasket, the two bonded layers have separated, and one layer has pulled into the intake port.

If it fails again I'll switch to Elring intake manifold gaskets.
