Preserving rear hatch lock and latch 1800 1973

As far as the lock, and similar parts, I refrain from carb cleaner if there are rubber or plastic parts involved and use starting fluid and compressed air instead with the normal warning both solvents are quite flammable. The ether is a thinner solvent and gets in the cylinder nooks and crannies. As for lubricant, I favor the synthetic lubes used on my model trains, somewhat expensive at 5 bucks a tube, but proven worth the cost. If you want cheaper, some locksmiths use LPS-2. This shop uses WD-40 only as an alternative starting fluid.
