Yes, you are correct that it must be one of the three remaining choices. David's suggestion is spot on, about the slot at the rear of the cams, those slots are off center going across the cam shaft, not sure which side of the off center is up, but getting them the same and now you are down to a 50 - 50 chance.

Do you have the spark plugs in? I remember turning it over by hand and hearing the air thru the spark plug holes on the compression stroke. If the plugs are in, then compression will be the sign that all is correct.
