I switched over to Mobil 1 10W-30 in my '94 940T at about 100K mi.
The car now has in excess of 250k mi. No leaks generated by the switchover. At 250K, the hone marks are still visible in the cylinders.
DO NOT put seal swellers in the engine (or anywhere else for that matter) long term effects will kill most seals in the engine since the swelling continues until the seals eventually fall apart. It is NOT a permanent fix, more like a stop-gap measure.
If you have a leak, fix it. The distributor is an easy fix, just a wee bit time consuming (about 1 hour, I've done it). Get the kit from IPD or FCP Groton (I forget who has the kit). Take pics as you disassemble (there is a right & wrong way to reassemble it). The only tools you will need (besides the wrenches to remove the distributor) is a punch the right diameter to pop out a retaining pin & a hammer. I doubt a seal sweller will stop the distributor leak.
Good luck.
BTW, I used to live in Hartsville, MA. Just east of Great Barrington.
