Coolant Hose / Thermostat Change 200 1977

The thermostat uses a sort of 0-ring like seal and not a traditional flat gasket between the housing and the head. Have a good look at the housing when you get it off as it may be badly pitted. Aftermarket replacements are available at a reasonable price.

Check out eeuroparts.com for the hoses, thermostat & thermostat seal and such. Free shipping for orders over $49. I've bought a lot of stuff from them. I like MacKay hoses for Volvos. Very well made Australian stuff. Gates and Goodyear are good as well. For the thermostat I'm partial to Wahler. The generic aftermarket thermostat housing eeuroparts sells for $12.90 works fine. I avoid Uro, Scantec and MTC rubber parts as much as possible as I've had very mixed results with their rubber bits. Simple hard parts like water pump studs and such seem to be ok from those suppliers.

For Volvo coolant I've had excellent results using Zerex G-05. It is a European style formulation and can usually be found in some of the better auto parts stores. If you find you need a water pump, Hepu is my favorite for Volvos.
