Hi
Getting the tube to slip into the back of the waterpump is one of the more challanging aspects of the job. Personally I like placing the o-ring in the backside of the pump first then pressing it onto the pre-heater line. Use a little sealant as a lube to help it slide on without the o-ring getting twisted up. Takes some finagling but it is doable.
Btw the red metal line supplies hot coolant to the heater core before the t-stat actually opens.
