I believe that something was "disturbed" enough to cause this post-fix. I agree with you about the brakes operating correctly and how that may not be the problem of shuddering when turning. The steering and pump have always been fine on this car. Is it possible that turning the wheels manually with the engine OFF, could have caused something to go awry with the pump and/or other steering parts? (seems odd to me)...
