Dan, don't pry them out. As was mentioned, use a small blade screw driver or knife. Incert the blade on the lower side of the blank, left or right. You want to depress a catch or plastic clip towards the center of the blank to release it. The blank should release and come out. On Ebay, search Volvo parts and there are often gauges for sale, sometimes turbo gauge clusters with volt meters and oil pressure gauges. They also made an oil temp gauge which requires a weld-in of a sensor on the oil pan. The oil pressure gauge requires changing the oil pressure light sender for a dual mode, both light and electric pressure sender. You'll need to add a wire for that circuit to the gauge.
