I will say that I think this cash for clunkers program is a great way to get people that can typically ill afford more debt further in debt. It seems to me that taking our (government) money and artificially boosting sales with a subsidy is a recipe for further economic malaise, rather than re-engineering the current structure of the American car manufacturer. The reason that GM went broke is not that they can't build cars, it in part is because they couldn't build the American dream.
