My 16v has a high idle, not exactly 1600, but high, and is definately running rich. So our problems may be different. If you have a scope you can check the signal to the idle motor. As I remember it's +12 on the center terminal and square waves on the 2 outer ones. Using a scope like this provides really fast diagnosis. O scopes are pretty cheap these days as portables with LCD screens.
