When I tried to pass my first ASM test, I failed NOX. Went to replace the cat and found the cat completely gutted. Not sure if that is a testament to the "cleanlyness" of Volvos or to the looseness of the requirements. '87s seem to be the most common to fail NOX on the ASM. With a reasonably well tuned car and a fairly new cat it is more than capable of passing the test. If you just have to pass a 2-stage idle test, I think you won't have any problems.
