I wanted out of my 88 740T and thought that a 940 would be good. Then I drove an early Lexus LS400, and for the same money as a good 940 I bought the Lexus. Big, tough, absolutely dead reliable cars, and rear wheel drive. I won't own a front driver. I've owned 30 Volvos. Now I have two Lexus (Toyotas). If you need two air bags, get a 93 or newer LS. If you want to spend the money get a 98-2000 LS. Wonderful cars. Don't judge them until you drive one. You'll see.....
