20W-50 weight oil--what's the deal? 200 1989

My company makes and sells engines. Recently had 1 OEM call with 2 completely self destructed turbo chargers. Cause? 15w-40 oil in the engines with temps at -24 Celsius and someone jumping in the cab starting the engine and revving the engine up without allowing time for oil circulation. Turbo shafts seized and twisted in pieces. I know yours doesn't have a turbo, but I say that just to piggyback on Volvodad's caution about bearings needing lubrication before increasing RPM's - you can protect yourself while running this heavy oil just by letting the engine idle a few more moments than you normally do then take off. Cold weather recommendations now go all the way down to 0W-30 with 5W-30 most recommended. An additional downside to 20W-50 would be reduced fuel economy dragging that heavy oil around inside. Won't kill you but isn't helping unless you are experiencing blowby or blowing blue smoke.
