Clanking and banging from real right tire blown strut or shock? 1991 240 200 1990

I agree with the others, unlikely it's the spring, but it is the easiest to change! Support the car well and safely, Take off the tire, remove the shock bolts, and the axle will drop low enough so that you can easily pull the spring out. In fact one "problem" with replacing shocks is that the spring some times inadvertently falls out.
Once you take the tire off, it should be obvious if the spring is broken. The shock could make noise if one end has become detached, also obvious once the tire is off.
BUT, most likely the trailing arm bushing, and THAT is tough job.
