1997 965 hose from charcoal cannister that vents to air - where's the other end? 900 1997

The CEL has been on since 2 weeks after the 2007 inspection, and the sticker is coming due. This time I intend to do it right, so I began checking and asking.

Code is always 440, malfunction in the evaporative emissions sytsem. Parts thrown at it so far make do change.

Checked with a shop owner here - 30+ years of all-brand experience, and he made sense. If the open end of that vent hose becomes home to a spider, or other such enterprising insect, air won't clear the cannister and the CEL light comes on.

Had the car up on a rack for an oil change last week, and we looked all over that area for the end of that hose. Never saw it. Any ideas of where to look?

BTW - checked with the dealer for hose replacement, and ¡surprise! not sold separately. Must purchase the entire cannister for $TFM (too many dollars).

Any help is most appreciated.

Thanks,

Bob
