Ball joint install to strut plate question 200 1986

I'm installing some TRW ball joints I got from eEuroparts.com. All has gone well except when I went to tighten the cap nut to the backside of the strut plate, the nut and threaded shaft spun together once the top of the nut and the top of the threads are flush. I can push down on the plate and there is about 1/4" of play when pushed down. Is this all normal? I did put a few drops of loctite on the threads before installing the nut.
Thanks in advance.
