Metal or Plastic Flame Trap? (Still cutting out when cold even with starter fluid) 200

So from what I read, the flame trap and breather box takes quite a while to soak clean and is pretty foul. If other stuff on this 87 is a guide, I doubt I am going to want to try to salvage it. I see a plastic and a metal one on FCP; what is the difference, if any?

Also, she still starts poorly and will barely stay on; Goatman's suggestion to spray starter fluid worked, but only to help with starting a little, didn't help the initial 5 - 8 minutes where I have to keep revving it to keep her on. FPR looks suspiciously new and I can isolate no fuel leaks anywhere along the line.

Thanks,
Hannah C.
