Auto trans removal/installation, recent experience / tip 200

This is the second time I have pulled and reinstalled an auto trans in a 240 while the car was on jack stands. The first time, I "balanced" the transmission on the cup of a standard floor jack... took a whole day to get the dang trans bolted back to the engine, ie. an absolute bloody nightmare. I even swore I would never do this job again!

Well, three years later and "wiser", I did the job again. This time I went to Harbor freight and bought a $40 transmission adapter for the floor jack. This time, it took an hour to get the bugger out, another hour to resequence the flex plate and replace the torque converter seal, followed by one hour to reinstall the transmission. Now I'm sitting back, sipping on a cold one and thinking to myself that the trans/jack adapter was the best $40 I've spent in a long time! There is another bonus, this time I didn't have to go to the ER to have my hand stitched up!

Hope this info helps someone else have an easier time with the same job.
