coolant loss from sensor 700 1989

i've noticed i'm losing coolant from the temperature gauge sensor, has anyone experienced this before,is it simply a case of putting in a new sensor or could it be something more sinister. You only notice it after a drive and the cars been stood for fifteen minutes,it's just trickling into a recess on top of the block.i'm worried it's being caused by excessive pressure in the cooling system,am i being paranoid?
