I saw an engine destroyed by someone using too much red rtv to seal and oil pan.
The rtv beads fell into the pan and were sucked into the oil pick up screen, plugging it.
The engine had a nice big hole through the pan and block.

Average White Band? Gotta find a T-rex sticker
Heartotempyou: Getting pulled over by the cops is one of the hassles of youth.
If you think you get pulled over a lot- think how often the fast & fruminous crowd gets pulled over. Add an unpopular skin color to that and you might as well just stop at the police station and carry a cop with you when you go out.
It eventually ages off.
Some of it can be moderated by disguise and good manners. You are already driving a Volvo- carry and wear a sportcoat and, if possible, a necktie. If you can stand it, wear 'em.
Say yes sir and no sir a lot.
The cops that are cool won't need it and will eventually relax- the cops that need that stuff will be less inclined to be jerks.
You may want to read up on 4th ammendment search and seizure procedure- and remember that politeness counts.
(sorry for going long on this subject, but I was a slow learner)
Btw- "Chrome don't get you home" was the phrase from my own streetracing days.

We've had it for only 9 months, but both my Wife & I have been pulled over by local law enforcement(for miniscule infractions) because the police consider it to be "tuner's car". Neither of us have ever been pulled over for speeding in any of our 240s. My `93 245 even has a "Grateful Dead" sticker in the back window!!(Cops usually pounce on vehicles with those!)

Maybe I will design a logo using some part of the male anatomy as a letter. Let's see, guy's crotch and penis might do as a substitute for a "Y".
Stupid? No more so than AWB's logo. I know what my initial impression of a guy wearing that hat would be if I didn't know him any better. About the same conclusions I draw when I see the chickie baby mudflaps, you know the ones with the busty women with the long hair sitting in profile, leaning on her hands, with her knees up. That is worse. A stereotypical body image on a car part that has mud and road filth sprayed on it all the time. What high regard for women the people who put those on their cars must have!
Infantile and offensive not becaause of the nudity, because I am not bothered by that at all, as I see a lot of naked people in the course of my job, but because it is bad design, and it takes all the sensuality and eroticism aaway from the nude body.
Advertisers know how easy you guys are to hotwire that way.

I wear my hat because of my love of Soul music. The Average White Band is one of the best (if not, the best) soul outfits still doing business out there today. Find me another band that is still putting out great soul albums in this day and age. You can't.
I don't know if I've mentioned this before here for whatever reason, but I'm known as "Portland's Favorite Soul Brother!" from the radio show I hosted this summer. As such, it's my duty to support soul in any way I can.
It's just a stupid little drawing, but it represents so much more to me. If you are really offended by that... well... that's a shame I guess.
...And since when did the music have anything to do with the logo?
What do you really want from me anyway? Give me a break. I'm an 18 year old male driving a 1980 245 with an original stock Volvo 8-TRACK player. I'm not about to put naked lady mud flaps on my wagon or anything. I think you are reading into this way too much.

If you reaally want to hear something tht will blow you out of the water, see if you can listen to copy of Fleetwood Mac's 1967 album "English Rose". It is next to impossible to get. I had to wait almost 3 months for a copy through Amazon.com. It came from Japan. Fleetwood Mac started out as a blues band. Yes, really. Before Stevie Nicks or any of that there was the guitar genius Peter Green and the rest of them and they plyed grotty, get down blues. On this album you will hear the original "Black Maagic Woman". Guitarists such s Clapton cite Peter Green as a huge influence in their own development. See if you can get a listen to it, aand then, if you still hve air time, turn the listeners in Portland onto THAT!
I really don't object that strongly to the logo in thaaat I m not some bluestocking tht runs shrieking when she sees nudity. You might be interested that I earn a bulk of my living posing for life drawing classes, which involves posing nude myself, so perhps you will understand my objection is based more on the fact that it is aa really bad drawing than the fact it is a *gasp* naked back.

Go ahead and weaar the hat even if it *IS* a bad draawing. An 18 year old guy who loves his old 240 obviously has his good points! If you ever get to drive a 122 or a 544, they will blow your away. Real road cars, both of them!

last visit: Fri Nov 20 10:23 CST 2009[RELATED]Not always true. I got pulled over in my '80 245... Stupid West Linn police...
They pulled me over "because" my license plate lights on my tailgate didn't work...
At least, that's what the said.
The REAL reasons they pulled me over are:
1.) I'm young.
2.) It was late.
and of course,
3.) I was driving an old car in a rich neighborhood. (It's the reverse situation of a cop pulling over a man driving a brand new car in the ghetto.) I have a friend who lives up there, and when ever I drive around that neighborhood, all the people around look at my car as if to say, "oh wow, how can you drive an old beat up car!" Just because my car's paint is heavily oxidized... (There is one person that lives across the street from my friend who has a '78 242... Nice Green, but that's it.)
I'd love to be there when each one of their cars fails them in a few years, just to say, "Ha ha, my car is still going."
I think those cops thought I was trafficking drugs or something stupid like that. They pulled me over because of a burned out light, and looked ALL over the back of my cargo area from out side with their flashlights, and kept asking me what this was, and what that was (I had a lot of tools and bungie cords out for some reason, that took a while).
Finally when I think they were convinced I wasn't doing anything wrong, (after at least a half-hour, by now it was almost 1:00 in the morning) I was on my way...
Don't get me wrong, I don't hate police at all. In fact, I really really wish more would patrol the high ways and pull over all those stupid truck drivers, taxi drivers, Semi-truck drivers, and supped up racecars that do 90 on a 55 highway. I just think it was pretty ridiculous of those cops pulling me over for the given reason. There is bigger fish to fry then a burned out light if you ask me.

One of the officer's turned out to be completely evil, while the others were fine and dandy. By that time they could've been pulling over the people who were speeding past me. last visit: Fri Nov 20 10:23 CST 2009[RELATED]Well, I think it's safe to say that the only people that understand Volvo owners are Volvo owners. We are the only ones that can look at a 240 and tell just from the headlights about what year the car is from. We are the only ones that turn our heads when another Volvo (especially a 240) of similar or older vintage goes down the street (except for the 1800s, everyone turns to look at those)...
But, that said, most of these Honda driving "pretty boys" will loose their cars one way or another. Having just graduated from high school, I can't tell you how many times I would hear about one of those rice machines being stolen, broken into, or involved in horrible accidents. I was one of the few people at school that drove a 240, and I easily drove the oldest one (the '80). I was also the only student that drove a wagon. When I was driving the '77, it was one of the oldest cars in the entire lot... but no one except for me knew that.
Sure, some people made jokes about my "grandpa" car, but I would simply say, one of the following:
"Hey, I like your bus pass! Is it one of the new green ones? Those things are shiny!"
"When your car reaches 400,000 miles, then talk to me about my 'grandpa' car."
"About a year from now, when your supped up car blows up in your face, I'll still be driving this thing."
"Your car may be new and all, but do you feel safe parking it anywhere around here? If I'm a perspective thief, I would break into your car before mine."
"Hey man, a ride is a ride."
For the most part though, people respected my Volvo, if not for the 8-TRACK player, for the high mileage. (Many people also learned that Volvo did indeed make stick shifts. It's surprising how many people think there are no stick shift Volvo). Everyone couldn't have hated my Volvo anyway, since they were always asking for rides...
All in all, we are the only people that understand us, and that's how it's always going to be. It's just fine that way.

As much as I'd like to believe the comments were said with good intentions, my perception of the situation at the time told me otherwise. I don't really care what they or anyone else thinks or says about my car. Like you said, they weren't calling "me" a dinosaur.(And even if they did, I'm sure my apparent age to them would have warranted such a response.) I think the situation as a whole sums up the general standard of thinking towards older Volvos. My take on this is that we are rather esoteric in our commitment to these cars.
