Old Lady is Home at Last! With Pics 444-544

I drove O.L. home yesterday from the garage. She's not 100% complete, but pretty darned close and doing GREAT!

The first pic is when I picked her up from First Landing Auto Care in Virginia Beach with Mark (owner on the left) and Jason (master technician on the right). These guys are completely AWESOME and HIGHLY recommended. Mark picked me up from the house in his Morris Minor and even had me followed home as I drove the Old Lady for the first time - just in case. ;)

Honestly guys and gals, I couldn't not have done this without your help over the years. THANK YOU!

Thanks for all the great comments guys. I really appreciate it. Today is my wedding and we're super excited. The car is ready to go in the driveway and we'll be getting cleaned up shortly and getting suited up.
Wish me luck and have a great day!

Absolutely Beautiful! May the shake down cruise be a short and inexpensive one. I think I will buy stock in Mequires Wax now!

Good luck getting out of gas stations and parking lots without lengthy conversations with the adoring public.

    Gorgeous!

My great aunt bought a 544 (same off-white color) in Sweden in 1957-58 and toured Europe in it for 6 months. It was equipped with a cow bell under the hood, with a pull chain under the dash to ring it! In some Scandinavian country, at the time it was illegal (or at least bad form) to use the electric horn to persuade sheep and cattle to get out of the way.

If I recall correctly, Sweden was a right-hand drive nation at the time and my aunt had to specify LHD for use in mainland Europe and ultimately, the US.

My dad had the task of overseeing the transport of the car back to the States NYC), and there was some difficulty and extra delay in getting the battery re-installed and gas put in the car. But it was ready to go when needed, and my Denver-based aunt flew back east to pick up her well-broken-in Volvo. She loved that car and had it for close to a decade before it met its demise in a crash. What I'd give to have the un-crashed car today!

The pull chain under the dash was originally to pull up the roller blind in front of the radiator.
Early 122s had this feature also.

      Gorgeous indeed!

Not quite -- there were no RHD PVs. Sweden did drive in the left side of the road back then, but the driver sat on the curb side of the car. Must have made passing fun... Odd, but true.

Swedes did drive on the left hand side of the road, but (oddly enough) PV444 and 544 models were only ever offered in LHD configuration. Which probably made it hard to pass anyone.

There's a race prepared 544 in Australia that's been converted to RHD. Not sure what they're using for a dash pad, if anything. Race cars don't necessarily need dash pads.

The change to driving on the right hand side took place during rush hour on a weekday. They didn't want to make the change in the middle of the night and have people forget to drive on the other side of the road, and figured that making the change when the highest number of motorists were motoring would help everyone remember the new rule.

Sweden changed at 5am (not exactly rush hour) and went pretty well.
