last visit: Sat Nov 21 01:14 CST 2009[RELATED]Check out the diagnostics modes in the FAQ. It tells you how to use the OBD-1 probe. The mode 2 and 3 are not for error codes exactly, and the blinking lights are for diagnostics. The only way you can pull or clear error codes is in mode 1.
Removing the battery cable will clear the codes, but also resets a lot of other stuff.
And also - what do you mean 'trying to stall'? Inanimate objects have no feelings, don't give them any excuses to not work perfectly.
Is it stumbling? sputtering? all but stalling and then coming back?
Good Luck

About the codes. When I push for mode 2 I get constant led blinking. Mode 3 I get the same thing along with clicking from the intake manifold.
Just wondering if this is what I should be getting if there are no error codes stored in those modes.
I cleared tthe codes and now I get a 1-1-1 in mode 1. So I guess the MAF is o.k.

last visit: Fri Nov 20 15:54 CST 2009[RELATED]I assume you mean test 1 with probe in position 2. If you are selecting tests 2 and 3 results are as you described. See Faq section for details. Not sure why you want to disconnect battery but no harm in doing that. Got your radio code? The error code can be cleared as per the instructions. You may want to clear it to see if it comes back. Have you cleaned the MAF connector?
Describe what you mean by "trying to stall". Does that mean there is a low idle? Dies when you accelerate? Does car run normal once warmed up?

BTW: I've searched for the RWD FAQ's and cannot find the article on Diagnostic codes.

last visit: Fri Nov 20 15:54 CST 2009[RELATED]Could you explain the circumstances of "stall" and "die" and "try". Yes I know it means the engine stops or almost stops.
Does it idle normally? What is idle RPM?
What happens as you accelerate?
Does it lose power just as you step on the gas?
Does it "try to stall or stop" once you are moving at a constant speed?
You may simply have a bad MAF sensor, wrecker item.

last visit: Mon Aug 24 11:34 CST 2009[RELATED]Sorry I didn't post back sooner. I believe I understand how to use OBD now. Thanks all.
I cleared the codes and the error hasn't returned and the car seems to be running better. However, now the heater core went south on me. (My son's car) along with a 1-2-3 code on pin 2. I cleared and it didn't come back but got 2-2-4 on pin 6 so must still have a problem. I bypassed the heater core temporarily. I think I'll leave the R&R til I have a whole weekend free.
