93 240 volvo wagon has had a new starter idle regulator, water pump and spark ignighter, and when it runs for an hour or so and is shut down for any reason it will not start until an hour or so later when it cools dowm. When I say start it will not even turn over.
Any ideas. I have sedan started doing this and now will not start at all hot or cold

Have you examined the crank sensor (CPS)?

If the CPS is functioning on and off (sometimes related to heat and/or wire postioning) there may be no CPS siganl going to the CPU and if so there will be no fuel and no spark.

This is a frequent issue. Jiggle the CPS wire and see if the car will start.

My '91 CPS sensor end was totally eaten by corrosion and ran poorly until it just would not start.

Check the recent post about CRANK SENSOR QUESTION dated 7/2 by Ken in Maine and Art Benstein's usual excellent pictorial fix.

Hope this helps

Al

Check all of your battery cables for tight clean connections, including at the starter. If you mean the starter won't work when it won't "turn over" for an hour, the ignition switch is also in question, along with the starter solenoid.

More details of the problem would be helpful for the diagnosis. BTW, based on your zip code, you are in Davidson County NC, I'm in Davie County NC right next door, so if you need help, let me know!

I have no ideas. Sounds like a bad starter solenoid to me. Try whacking it with a stick while someone turns the key.
