I ask this because I just placed a spark plug insert into the head. If that doesn't work, which I think it will, I want to know if I can fix it myself. A little more info about my situation. I currently have two 740's one '90 740 GL (the one I am fixing) and a 91 740 which threw a rod (that one is my fault, but that was another post a long time ago). My backup plan, if I have to, is to just take the head off the '91 and place it on the '90. Before I f'ed up the spark plug thread, she wasn't starting. I drove her to my then current temp job and I came out at noon and she wouldn't start. Since then, I have been able to come up with a couple of theories as to why she was not starting, but haven't been able to test them with the spark plug jacked up. So my next question is this, how difficult is it to replace the timing belt? While this may or may not be the reason why she is unable to start, she probably needs it replaced anyway. I just bought her about two months ago and don't know much about her repair history. I think I am her 4th or 5th owner. I found on ipd's site (same place I got the thread tap for the plug) a timing belt kit with instructional dvd as well as a head gasket kit (I know enough to know I would need that). While writing this it occured to me that I just had the timing belt replaced on the '91 about a year ago. Would it be possible to simply order the dvd from ipd and use the belt off the '91 for the '90? I know this may not be the best circumstances but currently unemployed and need all the money saving tips I can get. I also know this is a lot, but you all have never failed me before. This is also a great time to change out your cam ,layshaft, and front main seals on your engine. They are very inexpensive and will keep all that hot brown stuff (I think the pros call this engine oil) inside your engine where it can do the most good. The cylinder head is more involved, but once again shouldn't be too much trouble, especially if you follow the links that the other respondents have so nicely posted here for you.
