I finally found the clue to my problem while reading the FAQ section a couple nights ago. I always assumed the fuel pump check valve would really only cause a prolonged period of no start when turning the car over at start but not actually cause it to stall after it started. My car would stall unless I kept the rpm above 1000/1500 for the first 3-5 minutes. Onced warmed up and driven a couple miles it would not stall.
I've been after this cold start stall for over a year now on a project car that I haven't been driving much in the past 3 years since purchase. I had a rusty/sandy gas tank that plugged up one filter and led me to replaced the in tank pump/filter, main pump with good used, FPR, and most recently a swap of used injectors. Somewhere along there I wore a hole in the hard plastic fuel line near the out side of the filter which led to swapping out the entire line with a used one.
My other problem that I thought was from an 85 bosch distributor in an 83 was solved the other day. The two bolts to the throttle wheel that also contact a ground where loose. Most likely from when I replaced the intake manifold gasket last year. Although the car still has some slight hesitation on acceleration.
