last visit: Sat Sep 26 06:02 CST 2009[RELATED]i thought the exact same thing, i went and changed it thinking 'something broken', but no theres a small relief hole with a loose metal stud in it...it means the thermostat never totally closes...Daryl

last visit: Fri Nov 20 21:28 CST 2009[RELATED]The thermostats I see at the auto parts store for most cars also come in a fail-safe model for a little more money. The only way these can fail is by staying open, not closed. I see they're also available for Volvo.

Why would you get an OEM thermostat when you can get a fail-safe one and why wouldn't Volvo offer a fail-safe one?
