last visit: Sat Nov 21 01:14 CST 2009[RELATED]I agree - I think the B234 DOHC engine is the only interference type used in the 7xx series.
Also the other responder did about everything he could to refurbish that engine.
The only other thing I could think of would be a new intake manifold gasket.
Happy Bricking,
Will

I did that as well, but forgot to mention it. I actually transferred the complete intake side to the new engine as it had been sitting on a stand for some time and I did not trust the injectors not be be "gummy"

last visit: Sat Nov 21 12:08 CST 2009[RELATED]No, it is not an interference engine.
I am currently in the process of swapping engines in my son's 1988 744T. It has piston slap that had people shaking their heads.
Anything you want to do to the engine should be done before installing it. I replaced the rear main seal, the front three seals, the waterpump, the timing belt and the exhaust manifold gaskets (using OE Volvo). I used plastigage to check the rod bearing clearance, checked the valve clearance, and replaced the cam cover and oil pan gasket. I cleaned out the oil separator.
I rebuilt the turbocharger, flushed the oil cooler and replaced the seals in the adapter.
The flywheel is currently at the machine shop and the clutch kit is waiting to be installed.
All of this on an engine I have never heard run. Several years ago in a weak moment I purchased this engine on eBay. It has a rebuilt head on it and so far it checks out, but I won't know until I fire it up.
Randy

last visit: Thu Sep 10 17:34 CST 2009[RELATED]I also need to know which sensors I can keep from the new engine and which I can't (are they all the same?) . The new engine is a '91 b230ft and the old one is an '86 (the original from the car), both are equiped with bosh injection.
The new engine had a mitsubishi turbo while the old one has a garret (it was changed 5 years ago and works very well) which I plan to install on the new engine (I don't know whether the mitsu. is good or not), will the oil lines from the mitsu. fit on the garret or do I need to switch those over also?
Thanks for the info!!!
