last visit: Fri Nov 20 15:31 CST 2009[RELATED]I tried to e-mail you an easier way to Solder jumpers wire to the pins (do it from the back of the cluster) but the BB e-mail got rejected.
It was just two PICs of the pins to solder on the back of the Cluster.

last visit: Sun Sep 6 16:39 CST 2009[RELATED]I found on mine the plug in module which is part of the instrument cluster fails. The ic chip goes faulty. You can take the yellow wire from the circular harness that drives this module and rewire it directly to the guage by splicing a round wire end ring and loosening the bottom nut of the temp guage and connecting it there. Drove me nuts for a long time, sometimes it would work sometimes not. Only difference is the temp gauge runs a little lower reading but still shows you a proper temp reading all the time. Before the mod it would go up and down while driving, which would drive you insane.

last visit: Sat Nov 21 20:35 CST 2009[RELATED]The majority of temperature gauge problems is the compensation board. If you remove the instrument cluster, simply remove the board, and install a jumper wire in its place you will most likely have a working gauge.

last visit: Sat Nov 21 21:16 CST 2009[RELATED]A picture is worth a thousand words. My 245 came with a non-functional temp gauge, and with the board removed and the jumper installed, it now works like a charm.
thanks!

last visit: Sun Sep 6 16:39 CST 2009[RELATED]I think the module may perform other functions so removing it may not be a good idea. Moving the yellow wire may be a better idea. Not positive on that one.

They are always removed from any 240 that is equipped with one that passes through my workspace. Never noticed anything except a totally functioning temperature gauge after the bypass.

last visit: Sat Nov 21 21:51 CST 2009[RELATED]Search this site for "temperature compensation board bypass", follow the instructions and your temp gauge will quit freaking you out.
On the mileage counter/ odometer, does it work at all? if not, it probably has a broken gear, www.odometergears.com sells the replacement. You can effect both repairs at the same time... note that the instrument cluster must come out to fix either issue.
