got lucky today 120-130

I have recently started driving my 122 as a daily driver after months and years of work. Some of the last things to do were keys to the doors and trunk. I work on a golf course as a mechanic and we have probably a hundred old keys in a bucket from equipment and locks from days past. While I was waiting for a reel to grind out I decided to start trying keys in my door locks after about 30-40 keys I found one that worked, it opens the door and trunk also locks it from the outside. The key fits perfectly no slop or jiggling just feels like it belongs to that cylinder. This saved me the expense of new locks and the work involved.

For anyone's information in the same dilemma the key that fit was from a older gm door lock, it fits perfectly.

here's the thing. Before I rebuilt the cylinders on my wagon, any key that was a decent fit would open the lock. The cylinder barrel is soft steel and wears out after 20-30 years. Don't want to rain on your parade but try some other close fit keys, if they to open the lock your cyls are worn. PITA to change. good luck.

I once noticed (purely by accident) that the door keys from my old 122 worked on the doors and ignition on my uncle's old Land Rover.

The blanks for my 444 (ign. and door/trunk) are marked "COLE RA3" and are for GM door and trunk locks, round heads.
The blanks for my 122 (door/hatch only) are marked "hillman Y11". The Ign. is aftermarket.

Cheers!

Sorry to imply something more exciting may have happened!

I do not have a number on the key, but I am thinking it may work on other cars maybe the pattern is enough of a master key not sure. If you need one maybe I could send you a copy, if you proimse to pay for the key and shipping.

I may need to take you up on this. My 122 Wagon only came with an ignition key :-(

Let me know what you need and I can email you details.

Thanks,
Joe

Door lock blanks are available and not super expensive. Any decent locksmith should be able to make a key for you, even with out a key.
