There supposedly is a plate somewhere on the vehicle which identifies the proper steering gear, but, I have not been able to locate it. Any help would be appreciated. In either case, a rebuilt rack from Jorgen Auto comes with the the minor parts needed to interchange, in the event that your rack is not the original one per ID tag. On the wagons it should be located in the spare tire well. The tag will not specify by type name but rather as "steering gear 1" or "steering gear 2". Beyond that--if your tie rods have a rubber disc at the outer ends that the boot fits over you have a ZF----if the boots reduce in size to the tie rod shaft size, it's a Cam Gear. -- Dave Mark this post as an answer to my question<- Use this feature to mark quality replies to your post. However if your car has ever had significant front end damage from a crash and was repaired or the car was totally repainted, it's possible that tag was removed or painted over.
