last visit: Wed Nov 18 14:08 CST 2009[RELATED]I just bought a package of spray cans of the body paint and clear coat from Tasca - just gave them my paint code - like $15. I'd sand up the rust lightly, spray rust inhibitor from an autoparts store, then spray paint, then spray clear coat. At least that's what I plan to do with my minor rust issues.

last visit: Sat Nov 21 20:42 CST 2009[RELATED]the only way to turn iron oxide into a stable form without excising it from your car is to use something with tannic acid as an active ingredient.
tannic acid (certain kinds of tea and tea bags have this in it, as it stains tea pots)in contact with iron oxide turns that into iron tannate, a stable compound.

I've had good results with Metal-Ready from www.POR15.com
I believe it does a very similar thing: turning iron oxide into iron phosphate, and leaving a zinc phosphate coating as well. But yes, getting a stable compound is the secret to success. Otherwise, rust never sleeps.

last visit: Wed Nov 4 16:24 CST 2009[RELATED]I used some Loctite Rust Neutralizer on mine and it worked great. Leave the rust right on there and just paint a few coats of neutralizer on it and it will turn black and hard. you can even use touchup paint over it.
hope this helps
