Oil pressure readings 700 1987

Hi folks,

I just got my oil pressure gauge working, after a couple weeks of waiting on an adapter for the M14 thread in the block (the front oil galley plug stripped out). Now there is a happy T connector with the switch and sender on the two ends. The gauge is a Sunpro electric gauge/sender that reads to 100 psi.

I have a question about my oil pressure readings. On a cold start, at idle, I read 65+ psi. For the first few minutes running at 35-45 mph I read between 60 and 75 psi, depending on RPM and load. When warm I see between 50 and 70 psi running at non-highway speeds, and 35 psi when stopped.

Is this normal?

Thanks,

Ari

Just curious 700 1987

Why would you install an oil pressure gauge if the readings of said gauge had no meaning to you?

Hi Ari,

All of those readings are perfectly normal. Maybe a little on the low end of the normal spectrum, but nothing at all to worry about.

Best,
Afton
