SAVE Going to look at an 81 244GL...any suggestions? 200
posted by someone claiming to be bmwguy22 on Sat Apr 18 11:53 CST 2009 [RELATED] Sorry, I hit enter too early,
Anyways, the car has 167k miles and is the 4 spd + OD. Has a.c that was working recently, and is being sold by the original owners son (b/c his dad is too old to drive the car)
The car has the b23E motor that's pretty reliable from what I've heard.
It's grey in color and seems very clean. Wind-up windows and crank sunroof.
I recenlty lost my job and have had to downsize so I sold my 04 S60M NA. Obviously this car wouldn;t hold a candle to the one it's replacing, but with my parts discount of 50-60% at my new job slinging euro parts, I think this would make a good daily driver. I would be able to do most if not all repairs myself given my experience and ease of maintenance on 240;s
The only reservation I have is with rust. I'm going to inspect the car later today and unless the car has significant rust, I may pick it up.
The owner is asking 1400, but i think i'll offer 7-800.
Any suggestions/advice? anything I should look at while I'm there?
thanks in advance

last visit: Thu Nov 19 03:43 CST 2009[RELATED]Feel for a strong acceleration and generally the engine performance. Looking at the engine I'd look at the engine mount (things to lower the price with), coolant seepage like around water pump or old hoses, service records that don't include a timing belt change for the past 5 years, old battery, tires ect... Anything you can pile on for a reason to pay less since most owners just get by with the least amount of maintenance. Of coarse if there is no rust with a good interior you could always hit on engine harness issue and that anything older than an 86 is going to be old school volvo without the B230f. You can get a 90 for that price.
