last visit: Fri Nov 20 17:06 CST 2009[RELATED]195-65-15 is the perfect 25" wheel for a volvo IMO the perfect balance of economy,
performance,and wheel protection for all practical purposes.
I found some new Falken Ziex 912's at a tuner shop for $50
+$20 M&B,and couldn't be happier.
My 82-245 with Virgos came with 205-60-15's
but they felt heavy in the steering to me,so I gave them to a friend.
Save up a little,and buy new tires.
My father always said;
"Good tires are the cheapest insurance you can buy."

last visit: Tue Nov 17 12:28 CST 2009[RELATED]185/65 and 195/60 are virtually identical diameter. The 195/65 will be slightly taller and give a small speedo error but higher load capacity and softer ride. If they are high quality tires for a good price, then by all means use them - especially if it is a set of four.

Spending money to mount and balance used tires is a bit of a waste, in my opinion. Plus, either way you're disposing of old tires. The tire/road interface is just about the most important thing with a car. Of course, good used tires may trump low-end new tires, so that may change the equation.
Granted, finances ultimately dictate what you do, but if you can afford to put good new tires on, it's worth it in the long run. We're needing to do the same with our '87 240. I'd like to cheap out since it's a dog hauler, but since we're likely to be driving 240's for a while, we'll get the full life out of them.

last visit: Thu Nov 19 09:49 CST 2009[RELATED]I would always opt for 195/65's on my 700 series cars. In fact with that size, which I have used many times, the speedo is more exact! The original tire size and speedo combination seem to be about 3% high, but the 195's make it about perfect.
205/60s will also work fine.
I have purchased many used tires, usually snows. For $150 you should do a careful check of tread depth. Tires start with about 11-12/ 32nds, and the last 2/32 are unusable. For that price (about60% of new,) you want to get at least 8/32 (12/32 - 2/32 = 10/32 x0.6 = 6/32, + 2/32= 8/32) of tread on all the tires all the way across.

Start with this link:
Tire Size Calculator
Lets you know what your speedometer/odometer error will be with tires other than the correct size. Unless the tires are significantly wider (first number) and/or higher profile, you're probably fine, but others can comment on maximum sizes before you get rubbing in the wheel wells, etc.
