Hello all, have decided that i can only drive my 1967 1800s in the dead of winter or in the midnight hours due to the lack of cool air available here down under. Has anyone ever fitted flipper windows to the "d windows" or an air con. I dont want to see a unit such as the old Mk4 hanging under under the dash and was contemplating a trunk unit such as supplied by vintage air. Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated. I also have a 131 which would follow suit. Thanks in anticipation. David

My 1800ES has the original Volvo dealer/factory add-on unit. Got the parts from Don Thebault in Boston. Has the new rotary Sankyo compressor.
Keeps me nice and cool here in Texas, blows plenty of cold air.
It does hang under the dash on the passenger side, no getting around that, but the four vents look OK.

You do know about the fresh air vents under the dash...? They don't cure the problem, but they help.... those, and turn them quarter light windows to direct air directly into your face, and keep your speed up around 50kph or more :-)

That's the A/C unit that was an option in the later model 1800's. You could probably pick one up from one of the 1800 restoration suppliers like Jim Thiebolt. (I don't know if I spelled the name right.) Rather than the installing the old York type compressor, you would probably want a more modern, smoother operating rotary type. There is at least one person out there that makes the necessary mounting brackets.
