Hi!
This just happened about 2 weeks ago. The starter on my 1991 240SE station wagon would run free after 2 or 3 cranks. Then, a gear re-engaging like sound and vibration happen after I release the key from start position.
When this happens, it would take a few tries before I can start the car. It happened about 50% of the starts and seems to happen more often when the car is warm.
I grabbed the starter and shock. The starter is holding tight in position. I am now suspecting that the starter gears or the flywheel gears are worn out.
Does anyone have the similar experience? Thanks!
