Here is what I see.
The individual who has been so vociferous in his support of the GOP and so quick to condemn those who stand up to what is injustice, coercion, and downright fasict at home has the audacity to place this little quote on the board.
In other words, he condemned people like me and CA for doing EXACTLY what that article stated. We stood up. Most importanty, we started at home too, which is what you are supposed to do. For this pleasure we were called unpatriotic, un-American, and that typical label so loved and bandied about, *liberal*. As if that said it all. Not only by Oh Crud, but by his buddies like Greg, Bryan, Bru, Tom Irwin, Brian, Warren Bain aka Token Ring Man, and the list goes on.
Just like Germany in 1938.
Why did he place this article?
Because it supports Bush's selfish and money grubbing war in Iraq. So Oh Crud think it somehow justifies his favourite party's little piece of war-mongering. It does not.
This is called hypocricy, and it is the epitome of the GOP and the blathering and posturing of individuals like Oh Crud.
So, the article says that the Europeans didn't stand up time and time again. Sometimes, yes, that is definitely true. But they were with us in Gulf War I. They were with us in the Balkans- a move BITTERLY opposed by the GOP- as part of NATO, they were with us in Afghanistan, and when everybody pulled out of Ruwanda, the French went back ON THEIR OWN. The US was? Nowhere nearbye until the very end, when Clinton got PO'ed at the GOP and said screw you.
Tell me Twombo, when the GOP talks about standing up and sacrefice, and its novices come to places like the Brickboard to spout their spiel, just what is it they are referring to? What injustice are they putting their knecks on the line for?
Certainly its not their money-note Greg voting against Kerry over losing his tax break. Certainly its not their own personal needs, perhaps not having new cars so that we might build more armor for Humvees. Certainly its not Paul encouraging their children to sign up in the military, instead of college, for a few years- they like to put together cutesy little care packages just like the Romonov daughters made pretty eggs for the soldiers in the trenches in WWI. (At least they can be forgiven for being so young and not having the choices a titled female might have today.) Certainly they are not encouraging to dothings that REALLY help in the face of such injustice, like the Peace Corp- that's just for well educated liberals. Have the spouses of Bush or Cheney or Rumsfeld done ANYTHING to organize charities, support groups, and so forth for the benefits of the GI's? Not that I have seen. But they can laugh at the less fortunate, can't they, at fundraisers to promote their agenda.
So, the article is not only limited in its scope, and certainly limited in its ability to state clear specifics to defend its accusations. Its use by someone like Oh Crud is simply an absurdity.
