Subaru longevity

Hello.

A friend of mine is looking to buy a new car, and I want to help him find something that has the promise of many miles and many years. Since RWD Volvos are no longer, I was thinking of recommending a Subaru, which I just found out is owned by Fuji Heavy Industries, with GM only having a 20% stake ( I thought GM owned them out and out). Do you have any thoughts on longevity for the new subarus? Will they make 200, 300K, etc? It seems that they are quality built by company that is not so interested in globalizing platforms and maximizing synergy at the cost of quality.

He is also interested in the Mini, which seems to have a lot of 3 series parts at an under $20K price tag. I think it is a nice car with good feul economy - but I haven't heard anything about the promise of that little engine.

Any thoughts?
