I am a hunter and I eat what I kill. Deer season opens next week so I will put two fat ones in the freezer and call it good for the year unless I happen to see an elk. I have been too busy to worry about trying to find any bears or a place to hunt antelope so I will have to save those for future seasons.

I have never understood the idea of "hunting as sport" and I have never understood taxidermy, it just seems pointless and creepy. I think that the rise in television hunting shows and what you might call "hunting fashion"; name brand shit, designer camouflage and an endless flood of outdoor stores and outdoor crap and the latest guns and gadgets all marketed to the hilt has really offset what I enjoy about being out there. The people who respond to that kind of market manipulation should really just stay the hell home and watch football and leave the woods to the people who get something out of just being there. There's nothing like human beings to fuck up a good thing.

I used to hunt in an area in Idaho that was thick with wolves, I loved it. I enjoyed seeing their tracks everywhere, finding their scat, seeing the monster tracks of the alpha male and hearing them howl at night. I like nature and I like natural things because it is my only connection to anything "real", I just wish there was more of it and less of us.
