I have been trying to follow the threads in the "Are we there yet" posts and want to share an experience and a question. I didn't know where to best insert this, so I started a new thread.
A book I was reading commented on Mother Teresa's speech to the UN as an example of the greatness of her message and works for the downtrodden. When I googled her speech to read it for myself, I could only come up with HUGE websites basically calling her the anti-christ! From what i have seen on tv and read about her, she is a saint, embracing Christ's message and followed by St. Francis. I can't express my thoughts coherently here, but my basic question is: Was she evil or a saint? The websites were apparently set up by what I would call extremist evangelical types. What we used to call Bible thumpers. They take the Bible as the ONLY source of their beliefs. Of course they pick out the parts that serve their point of view and ignore the rest- love your neighbor as yourself, etc. Is this the "far-right Christian coalition"?
Maybe I shouldn't post my opinion here about religion. When I commented on Pope John Paul II passing, I was whipped for saying he was a great man. Oh well....
