The internet is a wonderous invention. Saved me a couple of hundred dollars this weekend.
On Friday, I scratched the plastic lenses in my glasses - major scratches right in the middle of the lenses. They're trifocals, photo gray, and replacing them would cost about $250. I tried buffing them out with a soft buffer on a Dremel tool, but no joy. So, on a hunch, I googled "repair scratched glasses."
I found a site that claimed that a glass etching compound sold at craft shops would remove scratches from plastic lenses. It's called Armor-Etch, and sells for about $11 at Michaels. As luck would have it, my wife had a 50% off coupon for Michaels, so she picked up a bottle.
Simple procedure - apply a small amount with a Q-tip, let sit for about fifteen seconds, then rinse with hot tap water and dry with a soft cotton cloth.
And it works!!! The lenses are like new, no hint of the scratches.
Warning - it only works on plastic - DO NOT USE ON GLASS LENSES! Plastic lenses have a non-glare coating and that's what scratches - the Armor-Etch removes the scratches coating layer.
Just had to pass along this tip.
