Shelter Closing: Help Adopt Pets or They'll Die

HOUSTON -- A Houston-area shelter is closing in a week, and about 150 pets could die if they aren't adopted, a shelter volunteer said.
County Paws Rescue shelter near Hempstead is only animal shelter in Waller County, but it's closing because it has lost its funding, shelter volunteer Kim Munroe said. The shelter has about 80 dogs and 60 cats that could be euthanized if they're not adopted or picked up by another shelter.
"All they need is a chance," Munroe said. "All they need is a home."
Friday was supposed to be the last day for Country Paws, but some last-minute food donations are keeping it open for another week.
"Very tough, very tough," Munroe said. "They're all great animals, lovable."
Some of the pets are recognized breeds, while some are just mutts who've been abandoned, Munroe said.
"We've come here and had several tied to the gate," she said. "They've just been dumped in the road, dumped them down the road in a ditch."
Another shelter could open by summer's end, but by then, time may have run out for scores of rescued animals at Country Paws.
To adopt a pet, contact County Paws Rescue's Kim Munroe at 281-932-9347 or e-mail her at happydogs9@yahoo.com.
