hi fellow BB critter lovers. I am wondering if some of you an help me identify a snake I caught this evening while mowing. Poor guy, I don't know if he just got lucky and the blades missed him since I keep the grass cut tall, or if he came out of the bsuh to run for cover or what, but I felt a thwack on my ankle and looked down and almost jumped out of skin.It ws right by my foot.
I am familiar with most of our very common snakes, like black snakes, and grey rat snakes, copperheads, watermocs, and garters, but I have never seen one like this before. I think he is very young- or she- about 7 inches long max, evenly contoured. Its a light cream colour all over, with maybe a hint of a light brown stripe on its dorsal and some red in the tip of its tale. Its head is quite petite compared with its body, and it does not appear overly aggressive. It made one small little zig at me, but otherwise was more interested in curling around and wiggling than anything.
Of course, people do breed snakes for all sorts of colours, and they can escape, but I am not sure this one is.
So if any of you have some snake expertise, I would love to hear your opinion. I wouuld like to know what I have, and if it is toxic, decide where I want to let it go far away from my house.
TIA.
