Well, the time has come to replace my laptop. It has served me well. This is the machine that you all so generously gave to me when I was first diagnosed with s
Stage 4 brain cancer. It has served me really well, but the hinge broke recently, and as a result it is putting a strain on the other hinge. I have heard that
Dell 's parts are propritory and expensive.

Anyhow, I am looking around for a new notebook. My current laptop is 1400MHz, 585MHz and 512 ram. I was looking at a laptop with 2 dual processor (2.00Hz/4M) Ram 1 GB, HDD 120 GB. I am not computer savvy.

How much should I be paying for a laptop like this? Also, what do you think of Vista vs. Windows XP Professional. Is it true that I might have problems transferring data between XP Professional and Vista? Is it true there are a lot of bugs in Vista?

This a big purchase for me, so I want to make the right choice so I don't have to update for a while.
