Iwroteyou a long posting but my damn computer ate it.
Emma and and Fany are the only dogs I ever purchased from a breeder. Emma got parvo as a puppy. I took her out before the second vacination. I learned later that if they still have maternal restitant the vaccination won't take. Emmamade itthrough.
I bought mt two field Goldens (they are under 50# and don't have the heavy coat, they are real working retievers, not those huge ones with the heavy coats) from breeders. All my previus dogs have beenrescue dogs. I wanted tosee ifthere was a differencein training with a dog that I knew had no "baggage".
If you want a particular breed most breeders have "rescue groups" for their breed. Usually the dogs are "fostered" in volunteers' homes which means the dogs are less traumatized thanbeing at the shelter. The foster volunteers also get to observe the dog and get to know them and learn about them. Do they get along with other dogs, cats. kids? I think when the time comes you might want to check that out too.
I hope my friends give me as good, loving and peaceful going out as I was able to give Murphy. I was lucky in that he wasn't in pain, his back justgave out.
