As most of you will know i have been hanging out on this board for a while now, and am in turn, amused, dismayed, annoyed and generaly entertained by the stuff in opinions - I guess the reactions that you should get to a lively debating area.
At work today someone said to me 'you really have to get the new album by...' - now genrelly I would respond with 'oh is it good' or whatever and do nothin about it...but in this case the person has tastes much as mine are, is approximately the same age and I had been thinking about laying hands on it anyway..as the artist is a blast from my past...so i did!
Walked out of the office, stuck it on the multichanger of the 850 and turned the volume up...
Now I have to say it really is a must listen album.
What struck me is the first track which is an insitefull, witty and affectionate look at America from the outside, by a self confessed fan who chooses to live there but is certainly not blind to how it is percieved from the outside, a later track is a similar critique of the UK - the land of his birth.
What struck me in particular was that he was saying so much more ellequantly than I could what I have tried to explain on here regarding the world view of America - including how much we love you!
I really do suggest you beg borrow or whatever a copy of the album and give it a spin - you may hate it (hope not!) but it should at least provide food for thought..
the artist is 'Morrisey', ex lead dsinger of 'The Smiths' the album is entitled 'You are the quary'
for those who dont know him sort of imagine leonard cohen meets patty smith, then gets a touch of iggy pop thrown in!
