I don't either, except that I like the idea of the younger generation sending a message to the older one that they need to make a few changes toward liberalization. Will the Mullah's get the message? Who knows. As for Mousavi's participation in the attack on the Marines in Lebanon, maybe that got canceled out by his helping Reagan with the freeing of the hostages, and the timing thereof, and playing ball with him in the Iran-Contra affair. But no, as far as the US is concerned, Mousavi instead of Ahmadinejad as president would have made very little difference, except that it might have softened the tone of the rhetoric a bit. Mousavi might have made some improvements in the internal conditions in Iran, particularly the economic ones which Ahmadinejad has screwed up badly, but if you think his election would have resulted in a liberal, democratic regime, friendly toward the US, forget it.
